ENHANCING STUDENTSÔÇÖ NARRATIVE WRITING SKILL THROUGH STORYBIRD WEB 2.0 TOOL
Abstract
The problem lied on studentsÔÇÖ creativity and imagination in writing narrative text. The third semester students of English Teaching Department of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of IAIN Batusangkar, particularly TBI C often suffered this classic problem. They took times when they were asked to write narrative text. Indeed, they were easily getting bored with unattractive and unchallenging activity in the writing class. This research was aimed at proposing storybird web 2.0 tool as an excelent solution. The design of the research was classroom action research with two cycles. In conducting the research, the researcher used observation form, field notes, questionnaire, and writing test as the instrument. The researcher was also helpped by collaborators in conducting each cycles of the research. The data of this research were analyzed by using two tecniques. The quantitative data was analyzed by using the studentsÔÇÖ mean score gained by the students in writing test. Meanwhile, the qualitative data was analyzed through the data obtained from observation, and field notes. At the end, the findings showed that the studentsÔÇÖ narrative writing skill was enhanced by using storybird web 2.0 tool. At the first cycle, the enhancement was about 34% and at the second cyle the improvement was much better. It was about 50%. The enhancement could be predicted since storybird web 2.0 tool gives significant benefits on narrative writing. Then, the studentsÔÇÖ voice on┬á the use of storybird web 2.0 tool were positive ones. They thought storybird web 2.0 tool was useful for them to gather ideas. Therefore, it can be concluded that using storybird web 2.0 tool can enhance studentsÔÇÖ narrative writing skill.References
