THE CHALLENGE OF MATHEMATICS TEACHER IN GLOBALIZATION ERA

Abstract

Nowadays, we are in the globalization era of XXI century. One of the real signs of the globalization is shown by the development and improvement of knowlwdge and tecnology which are very quick especially in information, communication and transportation sections. To make Indonesia as the winner country in the world competition in this globalization era, there should be the good quality of human resources. The quality of the human resources itself is determined by the quality of education in the base level, middle level even in high level. On the other hand, the quality of education in Indonesia until now, especially in mathematics is still the lowest among countries in the world. It can be seen from the result surveys of International institution, such as PISA and TIMSS that put Indonesia in the low position. As an important element in the education system, techers are the important keys in the forming good quality of education. This paper is to discuss some of the challenges that should be understood and faced by a mathematics teacher in the globalization era to get the good quality of education.
