Abstract

The problem in this research is what is the concept of al-'afw according to Hamka, then how is 'afw towards humans and how is 'afw between humans according to Hamka in Tafsir al-Azhar. The focus of the problem in this research is the concept of al-'afw according to Hamka's interpretation. The first aim of this research is to find out and explain the meaning of al-'afw. According to Hamka in the interpretation of al-Azhar, secondly, to know the 'afw of Allah to humans according to Hamka and thirdly, to know the 'afw of fellow humans according to Hamka. This research is library research with the data source being the book Tafisr al-Azhar and several other literatures that are relevant to this discussion. According to Hamka, 'afw means sincerely forgiving the mistakes of every human being who does bad things, then erasing the feeling of resentment from oneself and letting go. Hamka encourages people to do good so that there will be no hostility. According to Hamka 'afw to Allah, namely, Allah forgives and forgives each of His servants even though the servant has done bad things, such as shirk, immorality and others. Then, according to Hamka, 'afw fellow human beings is forgiving mistakes made by others against oneself and erasing and letting go of these mistakes without repeating them. The analysis of the interpretation of 'afw here discusses five contexts, first forgiveness in the family context, second forgiveness in the context of war, third forgiveness in the context of monotheism, fourth forgiveness in the context of qishah and fifth forgiveness in the social context.
