THE ROLE OF SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN PROVIDING THE INFORMATION LITERACY NEEDS OF 11TH-GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA NEGERI 1 LINTAU BUO

School libraries have a strategic role in supporting the fulfillment of students’ information literacy needs in educational environments. Information literacy is an essential competence for students in accessing, understanding, and utilizing information effectively, particularly to support the learning process. This study aims to describe the role of the school library in providing information literacy needs for eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Lintau Buo and to identify the obstacles encountered in its implementation. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of librarians and eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Lintau Buo. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured by applying source triangulation, time triangulation, and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the library of SMA Negeri 1 Lintau Buo has played a role in fulfilling students’ information literacy needs through the provision of collections, facilities, and library services. The library also supports the development of reading interest, creativity, intellectual intelligence, as well as students’ emotional and spiritual aspects. However, the utilization of the library remains largely focused on academic needs and the completion of school assignments. The obstacles identified include limited facilities and infrastructure, insufficient non-academic reading collections, low student reading interest, and the lack of well-planned and sustainable literacy programs. This study concludes that although the role of the school library has been implemented, further development of services, structured literacy programs, and policy and budgetary support are required to optimally fulfill the information literacy needs of eleventh-grade students.
