Abstract

The aim of this research is to reveal the form of the ngantek belanjo tradition in Bengkulu society and then analyze this tradition using the lens of munakahat fiqh. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research, or what is called field research using a qualitative descriptive approach. This research was conducted in Retak Ilir Village, Ipuh District, Mukomuko Regency, and Bengkulu City. The data sources used are primary data sources, namely traditional leaders, niniak mamak, tribal heads, couples who carry out the ngantek belanjo tradition, and also other community figures. Then the secondary data sources used were the Retak Ilir Village profile, Retak Ilir Village traditional regulatory documents, books, journals, and theses related to the research object in this study. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The data validity guarantee technique used is data source triangulation. The results of this research show that the form of ngantek belanjo tradition among the people of Retak Ilir Village begins with an engagement process that involves giving a sign of engagement to the woman and deliberation in determining the ngantek belanjo money. After the engagement, the man is then obliged to give ngantek belanjo money, or shopping money, every month to the woman he proposes to in the agreed amount. The consequence of not implementing this ngantek belanjo tradition is that the second marriage will not be served in the village in the future. If the engagement is canceled by the woman, the token must be returned double, and the ngantek belanjo money must be returned in full, if the cancellation is by the man, the token and the ngantek belanjo money that has been given are not returned. Based on the research findings, this study confirms that the ngantek belanjo tradition has its own uniqueness, namely by making the engagement status the same as that of a legally married couple, namely that the prospective husband must give monthly shopping money to the prospective wife.
