This Community Service Program aimed to enhance the news casting competencies of twelfth-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Lintau Buo through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The program represents the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and serves as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Journalism department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar and SMA Negeri 2 Lintau Buo, which has been in place since 2022. The program was conducted by the Head of the Islamic Journalism Study Program, supported by a team of lecturers and students, in collaboration with the school principal, student council advisor, Multimedia Club advisor, and students, who actively participated as partners throughout all stages of the project. The PAR method was implemented through five stages: problem identification (diagnosis), planning, action, observation, and reflection. The training covered fundamental news casting skills, including articulation, intonation, vocal delivery, facial expression, body language, eye contact, and on-camera news presentation practice. The results demonstrated that the training significantly improved participants' knowledge and practical news presentation skills, increased their confidence in public speaking and on-camera performance, and strengthened their overall communication competence. Furthermore, the program reinforced the partnership between the university and the school, supported the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, and served as an academic outreach initiative to promote the Islamic Journalism Study Program to the wider community. These findings indicate that the PAR approach is effective in delivering participatory, sustainable, and impactful community engagement activities that enhance students' professional competencies while strengthening collaborative partnerships between higher education institutions and schools.
