Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal of the legal awareness of the people of Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency regarding the age limit for marriage. Data from the Dua Koto District KUA recorded 179 underage marriage couples in the 3 year period (2020-2022). The purpose of this discussion is to determine the level of public legal understanding and awareness regarding the implementation of Law Number 16 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage (hereinafter written the Marriage Law) in Article 7 paragraph (1), this is related to whether or not there is a compatibility between the rules and their implementation in the community of Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency. The type of research that the author uses is empirical juridical research, to collect data from the problem being studied. The data collection technique that the author uses is through interviews and document study. Data processing was carried out descriptively qualitatively, then explained and clarified aspects of certain problems and explained in effective sentences. The findings in this research are: the legal understanding and awareness of the people of Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency regarding the age limit for marriage which is considered to be still very low. Second, factors that influence the legal awareness of the people of Dua Koto District, Pasaman Regency regarding the age limit for marriage, namely the law itself, law enforcement, supporting facilities and facilities, society and culture. The implications arising from the public's legal awareness of underage marriage include psychological aspects, namely, caring for the body, stress, miscarriage and death. In terms of education, namely dropping out of school, it is difficult to find a job because of low education which spreads to the impact in terms of livelihood, namely, dropping out of education has implications for limited opportunities to enter the world of work, and ultimately not having a permanent job. Furthermore, the impact from a religious perspective is that it is difficult to create a sakinah, warahmah mawaddah family because disputes and quarrels often occur due to a lack of provisions and knowledge in marriage
